Basic Tools
1.
English Bible (Formal translation is much better—NASB, KJV, NKJV, ASV.)
2.
Bible concordance (Strong’s Concordance is the standard)
3.
An interlinear Bible is helpful to see the original words in their
context.
4.
Bible Dictionary (Make sure it is one that believes in the inerrancy
and authority of Scripture.)
5.
English dictionary
6.
Notebook in which to record your findings.
Word study procedure for the use of
an English Bible and Strong’s Concordance
1.
Select, in the Bible passage, the English word that you want to
study.
2.
Then go to Strong’s and look up that English word, and in the list of
references find the Bible passage that contains that English word.
3.
This will give you the number of the Greek or Hebrew word behind the
English word.
4.
Write down Strong’s page number and the dictionary number.
5.
Look up the dictionary number in dictionary that is in the back of
Strong’s Concordance.
6.
Write down the Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic definition from Strong’s
dictionary.
7.
Go back to Strong’s concordance (you wrote the page number) and again
find the English word.
8.
Read through the verses and context that has the English word and the
same dictionary number.
9.
Write down what you think is the best general meaning of the word in
the context under study.
10.
Finally, write out in a sentence or two the point of the word in its
usage in the passage under consideration.
